"That I was terrified to take the role was, for me, a sign that I should. Intimidation is a prerequisite to growth..." - Cicely Tyson

In her autobiography, Just as I Am, Cicely Tyson wrote the above in relation to her decision to play Rebecca in the film Sounder. That role resulted in an Academy Award nomination in 1977 and subsequently catapulted Tyson's acting career. From there she went on to play other memorable roles in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Roots, and The Trip to Bountiful. She used acting as her vehicle for supporting civil rights and her legendary roles earned her Kennedy Center honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I'm in awe of what Cicely Tyson's initial decision did for her career and for all of us who benefited from her artistry and commitments to social justice.

What intimidating roles, responsibilities, projects, or life changes are you grappling with? Who else will benefit from your choices as you stand in your power to decide? According to Tyson, "each of us can choose a path of impact." Supporting you as you make the decisions that are right for you and those you choose to serve.

Warmly,

Renée
